Thread: Upgrading of Win2000 Domain Controller

I desire to upgrade win2000 domain controller to my windows server 2003. I’m also having extra domain controller where I can run the forestprep and domain with the prep on the extra domain controller if not then I have to run it on my primary domain controller which will these commands alter anything on the domain controller which can also create the problem in the accessible AD structure in case if it didn’t work then I have to upgrade it with the win2k server Ad.

My recommendation would to remove the server from the domain, then do a fresh install, reconfigure and let the whole thing duplicate back to it. I agree that the other process to start up score when transferring to 2003. That is being said triple check for your backups if you have decided to transfer from AD2000 to AD2003.

I don't think you are going to require running the forest prep while upgrading it to the 2k3. If you have already produced the forest and domain, which you are just upgrading the operating system.
