Default Chkdsk and defrag while a new installation process

Hi All, I’m having a question which is related to running of chkdsk and defrag on a server after installing it from the RIS or CD. After I have installed Windows 2000 or 2003 server but when I run the chkdsk and defrag. There is now some conflict between my group which is running the chkdsk as well as the defrag which is well thought-out to be a waste of time. Is their any sort of information provided by the Microsoft which will be good or unwanted best practice?

The server which is having a 4 to 5 year life before they are been replaced and do not have chkdsk or defrag which runs for the entire life of the server, only been after the first installation of it.
Any kind of input on this might be greatly appreciated.

I’m unable to see how it might be possible to hurt for running chkdsk. As far as running of defrag is concerned on the new install what will the analysis say about it? If it is showing fragmentation then it might as run the defrag too.
