Default Formatting ntfs partition from Win 2000

    hi
I’m having ntfs separator, and I have a win2000 non bootable CD rom, I also wish to install win2000 from a dos bootable floppy drive which has already been detected by the CD rom, but it fails to read the ntfs partition. I want to format the ntfs partition from dos bootable so that I can easily install the fresh win2000 in my computer?

    Dos doesn’t recognize NTFS partitions.

Sorry, DOS does not really read the NTFS partitions.

For doing a clean install, also boot the Windows 2000 and install the CD-Rom or setup disks. The set is of four install disks which can be produced from the Windows 2000 CD-Rom; modify to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and implement makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and go after the prompts.

When you are able to get to the point, by deleting the obtainable NTFS and or any other partitions found. After you have deleted the partition abort the install, then again restart the pc by booting the CD-Rom or setup disks for evading unanticipated drive letter assignments with your new install.

Your proposal is very useful. It gives me a hint on how I can configure my NTFS primary partition. Though, I didn't even get to the point where I can decide what to delete a partition. After the Disk 4 was loaded, it displayed "Starting Windows 2000" and then a error message in blue screen appeared. I am also trying to get rid of the preceding unsuccessful Win XP installation.

Please help. Thanks a lot in advance.

    Hi again,

Things have distorted a bit. I tried it again and it did move on additional. It said that the system which is ready to install the Windows 2000 but it was unable to locate the CD-ROM. I use a SONY notebook which comes with only 1 USB port for both the floppy as well as CD-ROM drives. Can I load the USB drive before the installation process which moves further?

    Thanks!
