Thread: Selecting of OS

I have bought an hp pavilion dv9000 for a couple of years ago. I lately got a new desktop, and I'd like to turn the laptop into a work type of laptop. Since of this I wanted an operating system that is actually light on it. I was departing to wipe it clean anyways, so the question is what operating system I should make use of.

Ubuntu 9.04, Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7/RC 1.

What are the specs? If you have two gig of ram and a dual core CPU I would prefer you to go with Vista, it's actually not the system hog some people make it out to be. A gig of RAM? I'd most likely go back to XP which is very happy with that much RAM. Confirm that you can locate the drivers still - some of the laptops made to run Vista lack full XP support.

Thanks, it is having two gig of ram, and it is also a dual core, so I'll just prefer with Vista. The cause I asked is since I required maximizing the life of it, and having it run really easily. Do you propose just uninstalling all the programs I don't need?

If you still have the factory install of Vista from HP then yes, I would also try to uninstall any and everything which is not essential for you. On my Toshiba I did a fresh install of Vista and then added the desirable drivers one by one from Toshiba as a substitute of using their factory install.
