PCs sold with Windows 98 operating system already installed were among first to offer USB ports. Though ports offered slower data transfer than what we think normal today, those first USB ports worked in similar way. There are no set USB ports for particular devices and hardware. Though, as USB printers started to show, most PC companies labeled one of the included ports as "printer port."
Instructions
1. Check front panel of Windows 98. Few PCs at time offered a front-loaded USB port. The port is about a half inch wide and a quarter of an inch tall. An image of a trident is shown beside all USB ports.
2. See back side of PC if you could not find any USB ports on the front. Most Windows 98 PCs have at least two USB ports alongside on back of PC.
3. Put in USB cable from printer into one of accessible USB ports. It does not matter which USB port you choose.
4. Put in printer driver installation disk into CD drive. If installation wizard does not appear choose "My Computer" and double tick CD drive symbol.
5. Accept the license agreement for the driver and follow the remainder of prompts to finish USB printer driver installation.
