Microsoft has reserved some features logically related to the administration and system login information from one company to the Enterprise Edition of the upcoming Windows 8, which is involved in the sales volume licensing programs as well as type support Software Assurance, some of them were detailed Wednesday by the editor, via the blog team official Windows.
First, recall that the base of Windows 8 Enterprise is logically the Windows Pro 8, which means that the two editions share the virtualization-related features (including Hyper-V), encryption and monitoring (eg Remote Desktop). Are then added some additional refinements, some of which already exist in marriage Windows 7 / Windows 2008 R2.
Among these, mention can be notably Windows To Go , which allows for carrying around memory, USB key, its own system image, performed in a secure manner when the storage medium is associated with a computer. Corollary, which will disappoint some probably: Windows To Go is a company benefit, it will not be a priori impossible to enjoy it officially with other versions of the system.
DirectAccess offers meanwhile allow the user to connect to the corporate network seamlessly and securely, without having to introduce himself to a VPN connection. Among other interests, this link allows the administrator to maintain the client in accordance with company policy (updated software for example), but also to determine what rules should be applied at these remote access ( data encryption, network drives visible selection, etc..).
Another function, called AppLocker, will administer more finely access to files and applications, BranchCache feature, already known, for its part should take advantage of optimizations not detailed at this stage, when Windows 8 will be used by Company conjunction with Windows Server 2012. It allows for memory to store the form of cache, a part of the content the company network, so as to speed up client-side processing while limiting the volume of trade network.
Microsoft finally promises substantial improvements towards the virtualization (Remote Desktop) protocol and therefore VDI house, RemoteFX, which allow 3D rendering on the screen, support for USB devices and controls from the touch-screen terminals. In this regard, a program of virtual access will be restricted to well-RT Windows terminals, provided that they are associated with a PC covered by Software Assurance.
