Selecting several elements in Windows Explorer with the mouse aloneWant to select several files distributed in one directory at once? No problem. Keep the [Ctrl] key pressed and click with the mouse. But what do you do when only one hand is free?

Selecting multiple folders and files is possible with the help of small checkboxes in all versions of Vista with Tablet PC versions of Vista with Tablet PC functionality, i.e. Vista Home Premium, Business, Enterprise and Ultimate. With the [Win]+[E] shortcut, open Windows Explorer. Click on 'Organize' and select 'Folder and Search Options' in the following menu. Then in the 'Folder Options' dialog go to the 'View' tab. Under 'Advanced Settings' and check the option 'Use Checkboxes to Select Elements'. Confirm with 'OK'. Now when you move the cursor over the icon of a file or a folder, a checkbox appears in the top-left corner of the icon or just before it. Its size and position depends on the selected view. Simply check the relevant box in order to select the file or folder.
