Thread: Windows Vista Ultimate Edition installed on my machine

I have Windows Vista Ultimate Edition installed on my machine, I now want to install Windows XP, and dual-boot between the two, I read that this is not possible unless I format the hard drive and install Windows XP first and then Vista. Is that true?

You can install XP after Vista, but it will remove the Vista bootloader. It's possible to recover it quite easily though, thanks to a free tool called EasyBCD. To do this, just install XP as you normally do (in a separate partition, naturally), Then, boot into XP, and download EasyBCD from. Start this up, and click on the "Add/Remove Entries" tab. There should be only one option available in the Vista bootloader, Click "Add an Entry" and change the Drive in the dropdown menu from C:\ to E:\. Change Type to "Windows NT/2k/XP/2k3", and the Name to "Microsoft Windows XP". Then click "Add Entry" and "Save". Then go to the "Manage Bootloader" tab, Make sure that "Reinstall the Vista Bootloader" is selected and then click "Write MBR" and restart the system, You should now see the Vista bootloader, with an entry for Windows XP as well,
