At a particular instance, the data on your system may tend to get corrupt or data loss may simply occur due to a disaster. Hence backing up of data is required.
Windows Backup is an advanced backup tool in Windows Vista. Windows XP offered a basic backup utility which could not backup your data on different types of media and scheduling could not be done easily. The Backup utility in Windows Vista is quite simple and simplifies the process of backing up data on your system. The backup wizard also p.rovides an easy to use wizard that:ean schedule your backups as and when required. To backup the data on your system:
o Click "Start" and type "Backup" in the "Search" field.
o Click "Back up files."
o To backup your data on to local media, click the "On a hard disk, CD, or DVD" radio button and select an appropriate option from the dropdown list. Make sure the local media has sufficient space for the files to be backed up.
o To backup your data on the network, select "Browse" under "On a network" and specify an appropriate location on the network. Click "Next" to continue. o Select the appropriate files for backup by clicking "Additional Files" and click "Next:'
NOTE: Only files that are on NTFS¬formatted partitions can be backed up. System, executable and temporary files are not available for backup.
o Click "Save settings and start backup" to begin the backup. A dialog box will appear showing the progress of your backup.
o Click the "Stop backup" button to stop the backup process.
