The Sidebar in Vista is a strip that runs down the side of your screen that contains a selection of useful mini-programs called Gadgets. You'll find a few Gadgets in your Sidebar when you start Windows Vista for the first time, but you can add more by clicking on the plus sign at the top of the Sidebar. To download more, click 'Get more gadgets online' in the window that appears.
