Both Windows XP and Vista will, by default, hide the three-letter extensions at the end offile names. This is usually good, but occasionally it's necessary to change a file's extension. To do this, open Windows Explorer and click the Tools menu- in Vista press the Alt key to show it first. Select Folder Options, click the View tab and untick the option 'Hide extensions for known file types'. Click OK and all extensions will be visible.
