To send or receive a fax from your computer the first thing to bear in mind two questions:

The first is that you can not send a fax via a DSL connection. Circulating in the network programs that offer just that, sending a fax via ADSL, but it is to do it through business, and this service is provided to pay. To use the Fax service need a connection RTB (Basic Telephone Network) and an analog modem (the 56Kb).
Moreover, the fax service of Windows Vista Business and Windows Vista Ultimate allows use of fax servers that are in our network.

The second is that this option is only available in Windows Vista Business and Windows Vista Ultimate. Windows Vista Home (Basic or Premium) is not available, so if you want to send and receive faxes have to resort to third-party programs.

In the tutorial Configuring Fax in Windows Vista we have seen how you configure the Fax service, so in this tutorial we will focus on the steps for sending or receiving.

Send a fax:

We have two different ways of sending a fax, one is through the Fax Console and the other directly from a document. Let's see how it is done in both cases:

- From the Fax Console:

To send a fax from the Fax Console go to Start -> All Programs -> Windows Fax and Scan, and we click.

This opens the Fax Console. This console is quite interesting to have direct access to the escritoire, which will save us a few seconds for the opening. This is not as important to send a fax to the time of receipt.

We click the New button which we fax in the upper left corner and the editor opens fax that we see in the image below.

Size: 36.8 KB

We just fill in the remaining data, attach a document if it is our intention to write or fax the text in the editor, choose recipient and send.

- Directly from a document:

Send a document directly through the fax is as easy as clicking the Print option from the document (either a text document or an image), select Fax as your printer and click OK.

This opens the New Fax window, as seen in the image below.

We can see that the document you want to send a document as is. Tif attachment. Now we can only fill in the rest of the data and send the fax.

Receiving a fax:

- Home Manual:

The quickest way is simply, when we hear the fax tone, open the Fax Console (which for convenience we can take as a shortcut on the desktop) and click on the button Receive a fax now we see in the image below.

- Receive automatic:

We have already seen in the tutorial Configuring Fax in Windows Vista how to configure this service. Incoming faxes will be accepted automatically, according to the rules and options that are configured.

Forwarding a Fax as E-Mail:

One of the possibilities that offers the Fax Console in Windows Vista is to forward a fax you've received an email.

To do this simply note the fax forwarding and press the Forward button as the email that we see in the picture below.

This opens the Edit window email.

We see that the fax is attached as an image. Tif. Fill the rest of the data and send email.

Well, we have seen how we can send and receive faxes from the fax server in Windows Vista. I hope that you will find it useful.
