Default Do I require formatting my OEM?

I have an OEM already install with vista 32 and recently bought an OEM version of vista 64. My processor is 64 bit well-matched but when I put the disk in I acquire the subsequent error:

The version of this file is not well-suited with the version of Windows which you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you require an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.

What must I do? The manual acts like I can upgrade it. Do I require formatting my HD and starting from cut with the new version of Vista 64?

I'm afraid that you have the OEM but not the retail. What you're doing is retail upgrading. Back up all your data and then do a clean installation. If you are having not more than 4GB of ram, then don't worry about the 64bit.

Confirm that in the bios it is set to boot from the CD then, just place the CD into the drive and reboot it. I also consider that the message that you have got was since you had the windows running when you put that disk in for installation. It might not be essential for format unless you say it to and it must also keep your documents and settings integral. None of your installed programs will work as well as will wish to be reinstalled. It would also be the best if you format the drive as you do with the new installation. It also clears all your disorder, viruses, and old files that could be reason a conflict.
Something I would like to recommend if you have the space then make an extra divider this time to make use for the storage of your personal data.
Then if you ever have to reinstall you wont have to be anxious about losing any data of it.
