Thread: Getting rid of the beta version of Internet Explorer 8

You are not impressed with the beta version of Internet Explorer 8. Hence, you want to remove the browser with 'Uninstall programs' through the Control Panel. But you just aren't able to! Windows refuses to uninstall the application even if it can be seen in the software list! How can you get rid of the unwanted guest?

l Unlike old Windows versions, Vista does not consider Internet Explorer 8 an application but an update to IE 7. Hence, you cannot uninstall the browser as an application; you have to make use of the method for deleting updates. Open 'Start I Control Panel' and click 'Programs' and 'View installed updates'. In the classic view of the Control Panel. you can reach the same dialog by double-clicking 'Programs and Features' and then clicking 'View installed updates' in the following window.

Look for and select the 'Windows Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2' entry in the list under 'Microsoft Windows'. Now click 'Uninstall' and restart your system. Windows automatically reactivates the previous version 7 of Internet Explorer for you once the beta of version 8 is finally removed.
