Thread: Search guard plus-is this a virus?

I noticed a red shield with a yellow cross on the bottom right of my screen in the dock. It is a program called search guard plus(My Web Tattoo) and search guard plus update(My Web Tattoo) from Make the Web Better LLC. Not sure if this came with the computer or if its a virus. was on a web MD type site and a fake virus protector tried to install but I shut of the computer without hitting anything. Since then no real problems. I ran Trend Micro internet security and it found 17 cases of spyware and quarantined them. On another note-is trend micro any good? On our other computer I just removed all antivirus software and installed the free home edition of avast and it seems to work great. Wondering if I should do that hear as well? I had a similar problem once on my windows xp machine and was able to clear my content.ie5 folder to get rid of it. But I dont think that works anymore in Vista? Thanks for any help you could give me.

If it is Malware, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) will identify and remove it for you.
Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.Once downloaded install and when prompted update (this is very important) and run the full scan.

Remove everything it finds.

If Web Tattoo has been removed it was a baddie.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is especially good at identifying and removing rogue applications.

You can install MBAM and keep it. It doesn't have to be a run once utility. Keep it on the PC and update and run periodically as part of routine housekeeping.
