Default "Up" Keyboard Shortcut for Windows 7 or Vista Explorer

In Windows 7 and Vista, the new Explorer window doesn’t have an Up button, which makes completely crazy. There is a keyboard shortcut substitution, fortunately.

Let’s suppose x:\wpmu\wp-content directory. Definitely, anyone can generally click the “wpmu” part of the path and imitate the Up button, but doesn’t work always, specially if I’ve minimized the size of the window or lined two windows next to each other.

This window is 600px broad. You will obtain… if you just press the below key combination:

    Alt+Up

Much better… you are now in the parent directory.

Size: 20.4 KB

This is also the fastest step to receive to the Desktop folder… just continue pressing Alt+Up until you obtain to the correct folder.

Explorer has following other appealing keyboard shortcuts:

    • Alt+Right - Go forward
    • Alt+Left- Go back
    • Alt+D – Focus the address bar and select the current path.
    • F4 – Pop up the dropdown in the address bar, actually somewhat useful.
    • Alt+Enter – Properties of the selected file
    • Ctrl+Mousewheel – change the size of the icons
    • F11 - Put explorer into Fullscreen mode. Actually kinda weird, and I have no idea why this function is even there.
