Default Make Your System Clean Up Old Downloads Automatically

If your download folder continuously get messy with old files that you do not even remember downloading. You can delete the contents of the folder and start over, but a best way is to teach your PC how to clean it for you.

For this we will use a small freeware known as Belvedere that can move or delete files depends on custom rules you can simply setup in the interface. To obtain full benefit of automatic cleanup, you must setup the great system-cleaning application CCleaner to automatically run every night.

    Using Belvedere

After downloading the executable and saving it to a secure position, you can easily begin it and get right to work no install needed. If you would like the application to run automatically when you login, you can make a shortcut in the shell:startup folder.

Firstly you will want to do is tick the plus symbol on the bottom left to add a new Folder to watch.

Then choose folder from “Browser For Folder” dialog.

    Default More Information

Then tick the plus symbol below the Rules box to make a new rule, giving it a appropriate name like “Cleanup Old Downloads”. The interface will let you make many conditions to match files, but since we are trying to clean up old downloads you select “Date last opened” and “is not in the last” x “days”, which is very easy to understand.

You may send file to the recycle bin rather than removing it, and you can purify the filter by including a new rule with plus icon, and giving “Extension” and “matches one of”, and then put your file extensions into the box, divided by a comma.

The Test knob will display you what files are going to match so you do not make a mistake.

Once you finished with that rule, you make entirely different rule to match different files for instance I made a rule to move all downloaded images to my Pictures folder.

Once you have made all rules, you can minimize the application to the system tray, and it will work mutely in the background, cleaning up after you. It’s not a perfect application and surely has a few bugs; so make use of recycle bin instead of delete, but generally it is a great application for keeping your system cleaned up.
