Windows 7 and Vista contain a built-in functionality in Disk Management to minimize and expand partitions. No more third party utilities required!
To get to this utility Start>> control panel>>type partition in search box, you will immediately see the link show up:
Shrink a Partition
In the Disk Management screen, just right-click on the partition that you want to minimize and select “Shrink Volume” from the menu.
In the dialog box "Shrink, you need to enter the amount you want to cut through, but not the new size. For example, if you want to reduce your 50gb partition of about 10gb so now would be about 40gb, enter 10000 in the box:
Extend a Partition
In the Disk Management screen, just right-click on the partition that you want to shrink, and select “Extend Volume” from the menu.
On this screen, you can identify the amount that you want to raise the partition by. In this case, I am going to expand it back to the around 50GB size that it was before.
