Have you noticed that the option "File Types" has been completely removed from Vista, and there is no built-in way to change the editor for many file types? Of course, you can change the default application used to open the file, but you can not change what occurs when you right click / Edit.

You can also directly hack the registry, or there is a freeware utility that adds the functionality back we will show you how to do both techniques.

Using the Registry Hack Method

Start menu >> search or run box >> browse down to the following key to open regedit.exe :

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\batfile\shell\edit\command
Double-click the (Default) Key, to open it, and then replace the path notebook with the full path to the chosen editor, and do not forget to leave a space, then 1% at the end (which inserts the current file name in the path.)

Using the Easy Method

Use of free and open source types of utilities, you can easily change the types of files ... simply find the "Die “bat” extension in the list, or filter by "batfile class", then open the properties. You can easily replace the editor just using the yellow icon next to the dropdown and select the editor.

You can use this application to change the default editor for any file type, not just batch files.
