Default The windows 7 or Windows xp faster

I am the IT department in a medium sized Construction Company. I haven't had an opportunity to see Windows 7 in action but have heard some good things about it. My first question is, had Vista not come out, would all these good things still be said about it?

Now that Windows 7 is released, I have a choice to make when I buy my new PCs. That question is, do I want Windows 7 on new PC or attach with XP? Almost from everybody I heard that Windows 7 has all new hardware and is using it on their home PCs, not a hundred PC network over 2 states. My big worries are networking and Driver support. Driver support is always a problem with new Operating Systems and as we can't give to upgrade each PC and every device all at once I wasn't sure how big a problem it.

Usually, we hang around for a year or so after release to begin converting to it, for problems like Driver Support and other "hidden" problems to be solved, though, I am not sure if XP choices will last that long. I be thankful for any suggestion.

    Hi,

If I was making that conclusion, taking into consideration that you have hundreds of PCs in use, I would wait a while. There are bound to be some "hidden issues" with Windows 7, which will want to be corrected with Service Packs and updates. I think some of your PCs are using scanners, printers, etc. that Windows 7 does not give drivers for. And there will likely be some PCs that now have some hardware that can't be used with Windows 7 or not very well. If that's the case you'll have many unhappy employees, lost production, unhappy customers, and you'll be spending much time and money to obtain things working.

Go with XP; you can all the time upgrade OS at a later date if wanted.

What is your recent licensing agreement with Microsoft related to XP? Have you contact to PC hardware retailer about providing Windows XP supported PCs? Have you created a project plan for testing company's software and hardware with Windows 7?

Thanks for help. I feel we will attach with XP on systems. We now don't have an "agreement"; they are all OEM for machines. I had no purpose of converting accessible machines to Windows 7, now probably slowly replacing XP machines with Windows 7.

I consider that this is solved.

That would be okay, but some scanners, printers and legacy software would likely want replacement as you went also. Network printers might not be a problem as much as shared local printers over the network. Might be clever to obtain one test machine and see how you like it.

For me, it seems that Windows XP is still the best option for a operating system. Of course the others are better, but in terms of performance I think XP is to go to average. Yes Vista and DirectX 7 are 10, but how much of a difference does it really make? Vista and 7 have Aero but again that only makes things look good, they are nice and low settings improvements in usability, but in terms of performance that not long ago except maybe difficult.
