Thread: The Server 2000 Server

We just bought a new server to get the place of our rather old DC. I have found information on migrating Active Directory from a 2000 server to other 2000 server, a 2000 server to a 2003 server, a 2003 server to a 2003 server, and even 2003 to 2008, but none for the leap from 2000 to 2008. Is it relatively simple? Is it same to converting from 2000 to 2003?

If really planning on retiring 2000 server; I would connect new 2008 server to presented domain, dcpromo it leaving domain/forest functional levels where they are at, then move all FSMO roles and other services to new server, once you retire 2000 server, you can raise domain or forest functional levels on well-known 2008 server.
If 2000 server is a domain controller, you are stuck at 2000 levels.
