Default The Macs to Windows Server 2k3 domain?

    Hi,all

I have around 20 Imacs I am thinking adding to domain to create things easier. How tough is it, can you map shared drives on a Mac, and what do I want to be looking for?

I contain ten Macs on my network and I do not have them included to domain. You actually do not get support by including them. You can map drives locally but this can’t be done using group policy or active directory login scripts.

    Hello,

I feel it’s simple to include Macs to domain as then you do not want to set up new accounts on Macs if somebody different wants to log in to them. Use Directory Access tool and add Active Directory service, enter a unique name for Mac and tick Bind to join it to domain.

Mapping drives can be done either by: Using home drive/folder organized on user's domain account and enable its use via Directory Services tool.

If you have an Open Directory server, you can organize home drives though it tends to favor AFP or NFS folders. You can make an AppleScript on Mac Desktop to map drives. At last you can include map drives to Favorites in Go, Server menu option.

You can include Windows NT and above, Professional and above PCs to an Active Directory domain, not Mac, Linux boxes, or something else.

Macs utilize Open Directory; while it is LDAP, it is not friendly with Active Directory. Windows uses server message blocks for file sharing. If you can obtain mac to use that protocol, you can share folders.

To map a drive to a windows share. Click on Go, Server and enter line: smb://servername/sharename to mount a volume to a share. You will get window for a username and password to access it.

You can include Linux boxes to active directory.
