Default XP installation together with Vista

I have Vista on my computer on one drive. I have to install XP on a new. However, I know that if I install XP with an existing Vista installation, the MBR will be overwritten and I will not able to boot into Vista. Can I use EasyBCD to configure the MBR when I complete the XP installation and then boot into Vista? BTW, EasyBCD is a neat program that will arrange the boot sequence and MBR.

Having used up a great deal of time operational with the EasyBCD device I can offer a little basics about it and how to see a working dual boot assuming you plan to install XP on a second primary. That's referred to the XP after Vista type installation with a gradually

one time you see XP installed to the second primary on the similar drive or a second hard drive with the one Vista is on still outstanding the boot drive the mbr access are overwritten by the XP installer. The tool for seeing that accurate is the automatic startup repair tool seen on the Vista DVD itself if you have a recovery or complete edition disk.

while Vista will no longer start once XP is on you then boot from the Vista DVD until you get to the Install Now screen. Found below the install button you would click to install Vista you will also see the repair tools link that opens up into one more section of repair tools and a command prompt option. one time there after all Vista installations have been searched for by the scanning process there you click on the startup repair option.

The new tool seen there will directly revise the new mbr entries for Vista and can also be used for right other problems preventing Vista from seeing a normal startup. If you lack any recovery disk or full install DVD you can download a 120mb repair tool disk image in iso form to burn on a cd-r from Neosmart

You can't use the image they provide for any reinstallation of Vista however. That just contain the repair tools. The EasyBCD tool permit you to add a new entry into the Vista BCD store or better recognized a boot loader along with hire you pick and choose the name for the new entry like XP Home or Pro rather than seeing "previous version of Windows".

You can install the EasyBCD tool in XP as well as on Vista in case the Vista mbr should need to redone over at some point since that will make a backup of the original BCD. The guides there are also good references to review.
