    Default Vista decline to boot

I have an old hp laptop and it decline to boot. I lately got the scare ware AV Security suite. I follow the orders on how to remove it and now my computer wont boot. I have run startup restore about 5 times, check disk two times, and built in diagnostics come clean.

Lastly I would like to pass up reformatting the computer. We have is an windows xp bootable disk and I don’t consider we have anymore installs with that disk. He also doesn't desire to run Linux so that out of the question. I will try to convince him. Linux Mint all the way gives some help.

You acquire a hard one there. I believe the only way to solve your problem is by removing the HDD and connecting it in to different computer. Then doing a good Virus scan. Now you will need an adaptor to go from the Lapys Hard disks to a desktop ribbon. Or to USB.

This is a laptop so no removing the hard drive. Some how the PC boot up, but I received some errors. One was a Windows could not attach to a service. I can’t memorize what the service was but it occupied standard users not being able to log in. I exhausted an hour or so with hires boot cd running if not you have a GUARANTEED solution I would prefer not to reboot. Who knows what will happen. Presently running avg free and others on booted computer.

You can’t get solution without rebooting. And yes you can remove the Hard disks from laptops, unless it's one of the small ASUS ones that simply have a ram stick

Expectantly the Vipre Rescue Program will do for you what it did lately for a brother’s desktop when he was hit with a bogus av program which show to be an I Worm type virus. Follow-up scans with the main program later revealed a Trojan downloader and several Trojans were exposed and removed once data was improved from the drive.

Concerning the orders for removal that may have affected the boot information or resulted in other startup problems were you may want to download the Vista recovery disk picture for the repair tools seeing the startup repair tool with other repair options. The repair tools from a Vista DVD and cannot be used to reinstall Windows.

I have just run the viper rescue program from hirens boot cd's mini xp and the scan came up 100% clean.

As well any ideas that need a reboot are now ok because I was forced to do a hard shutdown of the notebook when every think with windows explorer and the start menu stopped up responding. Ctrl-shift-esc didn't work and crtl-alt-del didn't work either.

You obtain free of the virus but trashed the XP boot information most likely. The IQRL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error is well-known for windows XP and Server 2003 And yes complete system scans by VIPRE last a long time due to the program's far more thorough processes of detection and removal of stubborn bugs.

One more thing that results in seeing that error or BSODs is discovering a defective dimm is present on the machine involved. Bad ram will cause any number of problems with seeing bad install of Windows. Depending on the age of the system and memory you may want to see a good run of memory test for so lots of hours letting that run to see if this is the source of the problems you are still seeing.

I've done a some memory tests previously. Also I have 3gigs of ram in the PC. Could that be the problem?

If any are incompatible that would be a concern for both size and particularly timings and voltages mixed memory at all times leads to various kind of problems even if things look to be good at first.
Receiving a clean bill of health by memory test however is a good sign the dimms are good however.

Have you tried using the windows XP disk to repair the boot sector? And we have is an windows xp disk and I don’t think we have anymore installs genuine software. If that's the disk from that computer you got unlimited installs. And another question Has the Lapy still got the MS Sticker on the bottom with the XP KEY?

Every memory is factory I still have the windows sticker what I meant was when windows XP came out we purchase an windows xp pro disk and have had to reformat numerous computers. Afterward it made us buy a 100$ genuine disk because our disk "Is not Genuine Software". I am not sure how many installs the genuine disk gives us. The laptop was factory vista and came with no install disk. Would it just be easier to wipe vista and go XP or upgrade Windows 7?

A good clean install of windows7 and which flavor depends on what drivers and updates for hardware are offered could simply work I just performed an upgrade install of windows 7 over windows XP here on an previous Socket A build seeing an 80gb ide drive, 128mb AGP card, 1gb of memory showing 524mb useable. The windows XP hardware drivers and update for the original video card, chipset drivers, and onboard sound all went well.

I’m sure that there is no limit on activation. As well as if you still have the sticker under the lapy then you only want to download the edition the sticker is for, all free.
