Default Place windows XP Hard Disks on vista system

I would like to know if it is likely to boot up an widows XP HDD on a vista 64 bit system. a My friends allow me use the PC I gave him as mine was being cleaned up, and the only thing I can think of is that I somehow shocked the system while cleaning it or it was in the process of going and I just happened to finish it off. a My reason for asking is they have about 80gb worth of pictures on the hard disk and I would like to be able to get them off for them rather than the both of us getting hit, and perhaps rebuilding it, just so their oldest daughter would have one for when she goes to college. I would like to know if it's possible and will it do anything to my present system settings?

If your Vista computer still has IDE connections then just change the pins to slave connect it in. after that boot Vista and that should give you access to all of the windows XP files. If your computer no longer has IDE connections then you have to put the hard disks in to a USB external case.

changing the jumper on the Hard disks to Slave for the IDE connection, though, if your present drive is a SATA and you connect the other drive as IDE, by default, the system and BIOS will boot to the IDE first, so you have to go in to the BIOS and change the Boot Drive Order so your SATA drive boots first.
