Home directories in Windows Server 2003 R2

In versions of Windows prior to Windows Server 2003 R2, when you create a new user account to create a separate account for step for her home. This increases the likelihood of errors: if the directory is not configured, the user will not have access to it.

In Windows Server 2003 R2 home directory is automatically created at the place specified when creating a user account. This saves time and greatly facilitates the setup process. In this article I will tell you step by step how to create a user account control home directory. In the example I will refer to a user account of "snap-users and computers Active Directory". For new and existing accounts same process.

To assign home to a user account, follow these steps:

1. The server snap open "Users and computers Active Directory" (Active Directory Users And Computers).
2. Right click on the account for which you want to create a home directory, and select from the menu "Properties" (Properties).
3. In the Properties dialog box, "" (Properties) open the "Profile" (Profile).
4. In the section "Home" folder (Home Folder) Indicate whether the home user a local folder on his computer (it is convenient to users of laptops), or as the home directory can be connected and use the network drive.

(Note: When setting up a home directory is not necessary to create it before attributed to the profile. Windows Server 2003 R2 take care of this by itself, as soon as the user enters the system. must designate folders for the appropriate permits and permission to NTFS access to the user received a right of access to their own directory. If you skip this step, the user will not be able to keep any of its folder files.)

If you decide to use the network drive, select the letter of appointment to the disk and specify the path to a common directory, which will be home. For example, you can select the letter "U:" drop-down list (for people), and provide a path to the directory user to the file server by typing "\ fileserver \ usersshare". To save the user account properties, click "OK".

If you decide to use a local folder, browse to the folder on the local computer. You can specify absolute path using the existing disk in the form of the letter "C: \ documents and settings \ username \ my documents" or through the environment in the form of "% userprofile% \ My Documents". An environment variable%% userprofile does not allow the user to enter the name and points to each user's home directory folder in "C: \ documents and settings \". This provides an opportunity seriously to save time, especially if the tune had to multiple accounts at once.)

Setting up a home directory in your account settings saves time and do homedirs slightly more uniform.
