Snap-in is crucial part of MMC window and it acts as a primary tool in computer management related tasks. However to work with snap-ins, it is recommended that you should log on the computer as administrator because there are certain tasks that can be accomplished with adminis.trative rights. One such situation could be authoring a MMC to make some changes in the included snap-ins. Let us now undertake the following steps to add snap-ins in MMC window.
1. Move the mouse-pointer over the Console menu and click the left mouse-button. A pull-down menu appears.
2. Inside the pull-down menu. move the mouse-pointer over the Add/Remove Snap-in option and click the left mouse-button.
3. The Add/Remove Snap-in dialog box appears.
4. Inside the Add/Remove Snap-in dialog box. move the mouse-pointer over the Add button and click the left mouse-button.
5. Another dialog box. Add Standalone Snap-in appears. In the list of snap-ins. listed under Available Standalone Snap-ins. move the mouse-pointer over a snap-in name. say Device Manager. and click the left mouse-button to highlight it.
6. Now move the mouse-pointer over the Add button and click the left mouse-button.
7. A Device Manager dialog box appears asking whether the administrator would like to use this snap-in to manage a local computer or some another computer present on LAN. In our case, we will use the snap-in to manage local computer. So, make sure a dot appears beside the Local computer option. In case it is not the.re then move the mouse-pointer over the round button beside the Local computer option and click the left mouse-button. Next move the mouse-pointer over the Finish button and click the left mouse-button.
8. To add another snap-in the console, move the mouse¬pointer over another snap-in name, say Disk Defragmenter, and click the left mouse-button to highlight it.
9. Next move the mouse-pointer over the Add button and click the left mouse-button.
1O. After adding necessary snap-ins, move the mouse¬pointer over the Close button present in the Add Standalone Snap-in dialog box and click the left mouse-button.
11. The AddlRemove Snap-in dialog box appears. Move the mouse-pointer over the OK button and click the left mouse-button.
