The MMC Console window displays names of snap¬ins on the left hand side and their related components on the right hand side, just as Windows Explorer program displays folder and drive names on the left hand side and files on right hand side. In our case, snap-in Device Manager is highlighted and its components are visible on the right hand side. In the displayed components, the Network Adapter is appearing as disable. Let us now undertake the following steps and learn to manage computer from the Console window. As initial step, we will learn to enable the disabled Network Adapter.

1. Move the mouse-pointer over the name of the disabled Network Adapter and click the left mouse-button to highlight it.

2. Next. move the mouse-pointer over the Action menu and click the left mouse button.

3. In the pull-down menu, move the mouse-pointer over the Enable option and click the left mouse-button.

5. To use another snap-in. Disk Defragmenter in our case. move the mouse-pointer over the snap-in name and click the left mouse-button. The right side of the child window changes and appears similar to Disk Defragmenter window. To start defragmentation. move the mouse-pointer over 2 hard drive partition name and click the left mouse-button once. Next click over the Analyze button to know whether the selected partition needs defragmentation or not? In case the post-analysis report prompts for defragmentation. then move the mouse-button over the Defragment button and click the left mouse-button.
