System Restore is installed and configured automatically when Windows XP is installed and System Restore can be used; whenever necessary, as long as the minimum required disk space has been met. In this section, you will learn how to use System Restore through the wizard to restore system. The wizard undoes harmful changes to the computer but does not remove or change any personal document, email, or Internet favorites.
In previous section we learnt to run the System Restore wizard and create a restore point Comdex PC on July 2005. In steps to come, we will make use of same restore point in restoring the system. Let us now proceed ahead and learn to restore system to previous state.
1. Move the mouse-pointer over the Start button and click the left mouse-button. A pushup menu appears.
2. Inside pushup menu. move the mouse-pointer and place over All Programs option. Another menu appears.
3. Inside menu. place mouse pointer over the Accessories option. A sub-menu appears.
4. Inside sub-menu. move the mouse-pointer and place over the System Tools option.
5. Another sub-sub-menu appears. Move the mouse pointer over System Restore option and click the left mouse-button.
6. The welcome screen of System Restore wizard appears. Make sure that Restore the computer to an earlier time option appears selected.
7. After making selection for restoring the system to previous date, move the mouse-pointer over Next button and click the left mouse-button.
8. Next dialog box. Select a Restore Point; of System Restore appears. Click over a date in the calendar to select an optimal restore point. The options available are in bold type.
9. After selecting the restore point. move the mouse¬pointer over Next button and click the left mouse¬button.
10. A Confirm Restore Point Selection dialog box appears with description of restore point. After completing this step. System Restore reboots the system. So. it is best to save all your work before processing ahead.
11. To make confirmation over restoring the system on selected restore point. click over the Next button.
12. When system re-starts, and restoration is done successfully, a Resto~ation Complete dialog box of System Restore wizard appears on screen. Move the
mouse-pointer over OK button and click the left mouse¬button.
