System Restore requires twelve per cent of hard disk's space. As far as disk space goes, if enough disk space is present, Windows XP will automatically allot twelve per cent free space to System Restore. this free space can be lowered, but it is better not to make any changes to this free space and leave it alone to provide maximum effectiveness when you are using System Restore.
You may undertake the following steps to change the space on disk being used by System Restore.
1. Move the mouse-pointer over My Computer icon and click the right mouse-button. A shortcut menu appears.
2. Insrde shortcut menu, move the mouse-pointer over Properties option and click the left mouse-button.
3. A System Properties dialog box appears, Move the mouse-pointer over System Restore tab and click the left mouse-button.
4. Under Available Drives option, move the mouse¬pointer over a drive name to which you want to make changes and click the left mouse-button. Drive name highlights.
5. Without deselecting the drive name, move the mouse¬pointer over the Settings button and click the left mouse-button.
6. A Settings dialog box for the selected drive appears. You will find a slider under Disk space to use option. By default, the position of the slider is set to extreme right hand side, which indicates System Restore is making maximum use of disk space for monitoring the drive. Adjust the slider to left side to decrease the disk space or right side to increase the disk space for System Restore
7. After maki'ng changes to disk space, move the mouse- pointer over OK button and click the left mouse-button,
