Group Types

Security groups: These types of groups extend access rights to members of group. For example, if you want to allow a group of users to allow your high speed color printer, then you create a group called color printer user group. Then you grant permission to use color printer user group and then you add individual user to the group.

• Distribution groups. Unlike security enabled group, distribution groups are meant emailing purpose where user can send email to other users.

Group Scope and Group Type

Every security and distribution group has a scope that categorizes the degree to which the group is applied in the domain tree. Three different scopes are: universal, global, and domain local.

Universal scope: The group with universal scope can granted permissions to members groups and accounts in any domain in the domain tree.

Global scope: The groups with global scope can be granted permissions to in any domain tree to their members groups and accounts only from the domain in which the group is defined
