Only with the use of the command line you can, for example, the English version of Windows on top of the Russian preserving most settings. Of course, to know by heart all the parameters is not necessary, especially since many of them are primarily designed for system administrators, installing OS on tens and even hundreds of PCs, but the ordinary user and have on hand the relevant background material, and know how to properly take in the event of failure, very helpful. In doing so, I will try and help you, to the best of his ability describing the currently known parameters of the installer Windows 2000/XP (part of which belongs to the category of undocumented, but because depending on the version of the OS, some parameters can not work and outdated parameters / B / C / F / X / O, / OX / X, it seems, has been operating for only Windows NT4).
Well, as you know, run the installation of Windows 2000/XP manually (meaning - not through auto-CD Windows), you have two options:
using the program winnt.exe (located in the i386 directory CD-ROM Windows 2000/XP) - from under MS-DOS, for example, in the case neformatirovannogo hard disk;
winnt32.exe using programs (also located in the i386 directory CD-ROM Windows 2000/XP) - out of Windows for the new installation or upgrade to a previous version of Windows. It's a little faster than winnt.exe and has more accessible and understandable user interface.
A set of command line parameters from the two programs differ slightly. More or less documented winnt.exe parameters are:
/? -- call information on the programme;

In particular, using this parameter can be set cmdlines.txt launch a special file, which listed the program (as well as - any commands or scripts) that must be launched at the end of the graphical installation phase of the system (that is, part of the additional applications, in principle You can install along with the OS);

/ r: directory - includes the establishment (or, more correctly, made her copy from disk to the distribution of such content, folders, the user can be at his discretion) in the catalogue Winnt folder (in Windows XP by default folders with files called Windows OS), which will remain at the end OS installation. If you set some parameters / r, it will create several folders;

The road should be indicated in full form: drive: path or serverobschiy_resursput. The default is the same folder, which is located winnt.exe program;

If not specified UDF file, the system will require a floppy disk with a file named Unique $ $. Udb.
U program winnt32.exe command line several more:
/? -- Inquiries about the program;
/ checkupgradeonly - instead of installing the system to test the possibility of updating the current version of Windows, after which a report will be generated (Upgrade.txt file in Windows 9x or Winnt32.log in Windows NT) on the possibility of installing a new operating system;
/ cmd: team - sets the team, which is to be performed during the final stages of installing OS. Using this parameter can be set to launch a special cmdlines.txt file, which listed the program (as well as - any commands or scripts) that must be launched at the end of the graphical installation phase;

The road should be indicated in full form: drive: path or serverobschiy_resursput. The default is the same folder in which the program winnt32.exe.
/ syspart: drive - preparation for the installation of the disk operating system. When you use this parameter OS installation program copies all the necessary files to the Windows distribution dedicated hard disk, and marks him as an active, then this CD can be installed on any PC (or a few clones), which will continue and the installation of OS. The parameter / syspart used in conjunction with the parameter / tempdrive, and their values must indicate on the same disc;

In updating the previous version of Windows NT can be set in seconds delay between the completion of copying files to reboot the PC. Used in conjunction with the parameter / s;

More precisely, and their knowledge of the opportunities offered by the use of command-line operating system during installation, you will be able to official documentation from Microsoft, in particular, the extensive base of MSDN, as well as relevant background literature. In this regard, I very much want to recommend the book "Optimizing and tuning Windows 2000 Pro", which wrote Morten Nielsen Strunc - just kladez (more than 1000 pages), and useful information literacy councils.
