A quick way of shutting down your Windows XP computer is to do without the mouse altogether and use the keyboard instead. Press and release the Start button so that the Start menu appears, then press the U key to show the shutdown menu.
The different options can also be selected with the keyboard. Pressing U again will shut the computer down, R will restart the computer, S will go to standby mode and H will hibernate the computer if this power saving mode has been enabled.
