Error Loading Operating System

I received this message, Error Loading Operating System, when installing the Windows XP pro? After loading the installation files from the CD, windows XP shuts down and reboots to carry on loading a fresh install of Windows from the installation files in to the computer hard disk. Alternatively for loading the installation files an error message hangs the installation and reads...Error Loading Operating System. This installation files are loaded, but Windows XP won't load up in the computer?

I have also looked around the different forums and searched and no one had a definitive answer for solving this issue of Error Loading Operating System.

I inserted a completely different copy of a Windows XP CD in the tray and it loaded right up. The copy of Windows XP pro that would not load is good as far as I am concern. Was using it loaded onto a HD prior to this incident of not installing. It also got me puzzled for the moment.

Anybody have an idea?

I want to know if probable how to alter the standard windows XP, first start then log off or shut down menu. When it comes to my computer it shows windows XP professional and then a drop down menu with the options of what I require to do like as shut down, restart or stand by the computer. What I want to do is have it so that whenever I press the start button and press either log off or shut down that a box comes up that is without a drop down menu but displays shut down, restart and stand by. The way it is now, with the drop down menu I actually hate the way it looks and the setup of it. Any help would be appreciated.

First go to the Start then Control Panel
Click at the User Accounts
Click "Change the way users log on or off"
Also make sure that the box next to "Use welcome screen" is checked before quitting from computer.
