Thread: Windows XP Printer Permission "sufficient privileges" prob.

I have about 1400 XP boxes on a 2003 AD domain, and every one time when I setup a new PC attached to the domain the user can not connect to a network printer. They get the "You do not have enough rights to connect to this device" error. They are not in the local admin group on their PC, but everyone has install rights for printers. If you allow them with the local admin rights, they can install the printer and then take away the rights and they are fine. They can also delete the printer and then re-add it through the UNC path. Also, if an administrator installs the printer, anyone who uses the PC can then install in on their profile. This has occurred about 50 of the 1400 PC's, so it is not a huge problem, but it is an
irritating. If anyone has an idea of why this is occurring, I am also new and do not have any idea about it.

I am also suffering from the same problem. Adding of printers is used to be no problem, but recently most of the people are complaining about not being able to add to their printer. I have also checked the file and reg accesses (regmon and filemon), but unable to see anything doubtful. Even though I do notice that when I physically add the printer with its admin rights, it gets the full domain behind its name (other printers just have their name there) and no remark on it (that is set when the printer came into production). Might be it has something to do with the WINS server? Other users can add their printer without any problems. Did you find a solution yet? Please post your solution over here if you have found it.
