Now a day’s Windows XP installed in the computers too allow the user to store a great amount of information. Due to this, I would advice you to keep all your information well-classified and arranged so that when finding for it, it can be easily founded
out. In spite of storing the information with the well- confidential, it can also take place sometimes when we are able to locate a file or a folder. When this take place, you can take help of the Search function which is been provided by Windows for locating the file or folder very quickly. The search which is been supplied by the Windows XP also allows us to search for hardware, a network, people in the directory, Internet pages, etc.

For Searching
Click at Start.
Select on the menu Search.Searching in Windows XP-search.gif
The universal search page will be displayed as following.
Name: search1.jpg
Views: 121
Size: 12.7 KB
If you view it very closely you will consider that it is the same window as the windows explorer, but in its place of showing folders it shows the search attendant. If you are in the explorer which it is not essential then you can click on Start and then click at the Search menu; just merely click on the Name: search2.gif
Views: 70
Size: 529 Bytes available in the standard bar.
First you will require to select one of the options which are been shown, mainly depends upon what you are locating for. Images..., Documents..., Files..., Hardware..., Search Internet, etc.
The first three search options are much alike as well as you will also see them been grouped into one category.

Searching of Files or Folders in Windows XP
By selecting all the files and folders which are appearing on the desktop it will appear so that you can provide additional information on what we are looking out for. In the first box you will be able to put all or part of the file name which you are been looking for, and then windows will also display all the files or folders to you that includes the characters that you have typed. The more detailed of the names are more concise with the search will be, thus facilitating the search. In the box A word or phrase in the file: we can also type the as the text that the file you are been looking for and should also contain. It is not always easy to make use of this box since it considerably slows down the process as it looks for that word or phrase in each file. In the box Look in you can also signify in which unit you desire to look for the file or folder. Then click at the Search to start the search. In the event the Windows does not locate there anything, it will notify that in the window to the right with a message stating that the search has stopped and there are no such results to be show. While it is moving out the search, you can also stop the search by merely clicking at the Stop, because you have found out that you are been looking for or because you have made a mistake while searching anything. You will also have the option of finding it by the date that when it was lastly modified, sizes, and other advanced options, like as distinguishing between capital letters or lower case letters.
The search results will emerge on the right side of the window. The operations which you carry out on the files or folders are been located by the search which are the same ones that you can do on any other file or folder. You can also copy, delete, change name, etc.... In dealing with the Windows Explorer we can do the operations conversed about it Windows XP Explorer, that is to say that we can modified the results of window, choose the fields which you wish to see, also selected the type of view, etc..
