If user accounts have been set up on a computer, it may be possible to browse through other people's files. Marking folders as private will prevent this from happening. If you use Windows XP Home, you'll need to reboot in Safe Mode. Restart the computer and press F5 or F8 before Windows starts. Log in and find the folder that you want to make private. Right-click on it, select Properties, then click on the Security tab. You can add people by pressing the Add button. Type their username and then click on Check names. Different people can be given different permissions by clicking in the Allow and Deny boxes. Click OK to save the changes, then reboot the computer. Windows XP Professional does not need to be started in Safe Mode to make this change.
