To repair bad sectors in Windows XP, you have to run the disk error checking utility. To make sure that all applications and documents are closed, it is a good idea to start over your PC before running this function. It is also essential to note down that you have to administrator rights to be able to run the disk error inspection utility.
Instructions:
Click one time on the "Start" menu button on the taskbar. Locate "My Computer and Click two times on it. The "My Computer" window will occur, viewing you the unusual disks on your computer.
Right-click on the drive in which you would like to repair the bad sectors. A drop away menu will emerge. And click one time on "Properties."
Click on the "Tools" tag when the "Properties" window occurs. You will make out five tabs: "General," "Tools," "Hardware," "Sharing" and "Quota."
