You have dragged a couple of files onto the CD/DVD drive's icon by mistake and you decide you do not want to burn these files. Since then, you get the following note, "Files are available for writing on a CD", regularly in the notification area.

When you drag files to the CD/DVD drive in Windows Explorer, Windows first copies them onto a hidden folder. You can get rid of the persistent message by deleting files from this directory again. To do this, open Windows Explorer and click on 'Tools I Folder Options' here. In the subsequent dialog, switch to the 'View' tab, look for the 'Hidden files and folders' section in the advanced settings and activate the 'Show hidden files and folders' option. Now confirm this setting by clicking 'Apply' and then 'OK'. Subsequently, enter '%userprofile%' in the address bar and press [Enter]. Navigate to the 'Local Settings\ Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning' sub-folder and delete all the contents saved in here. Windows does away with the annoying message immediately.
For Vista though, the data is stored on another folder. Open the '%userprofile%' folder in Windows Explorer and then navigate to the 'App Data\Local\Microsoft\ Windows\ Burn' sub-folder and repeat.
