    Deliberately Loading Desktop and Internet

Hello: Here are specs. on my computer;HP pavilion 513W, Intel Celleron - 1.8 GH,
HD- 80GB, Free space- 49.5 GB, Running Processes - 57, RAM- 512 MB.
Start ups checked, -32. Running XP Home, version 2002, S/P2
Here is my problem: On startup the Windows welcome screen comes up, and after
45 seconds the background picture comes up. Then the desktop items fill in as folders and files, then they start changing to icons, one....at.....a....time. so the entire process to populate the desktop takes about 2 minutes, from the time the Windows welcomescreen comes up!

Also the internet takes a long time to load, whether using IE, Firefox, or Chrome, though Chrome loads slightly faster that the other 2.
I have Cleaned up the HD, recycle bin, tempfiles, and Defragged it. I have unclicked
all but the necessary Startup files, and run it in Selective Startup configuration, but still the problem remains....Attached is a Hijackthis printout in case you need it. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well, 512 Mb of RAM is minimal for XP but certainly not optimal. I would recommend at least 1 GB for smoother operation.

Nonetheless, it would be interesting to see your HijackThis log.
Please click here to download and install the HijackThis installer.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile. The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

    RAM - 512 MB
    Running processes - 57
    Startups checked - 32

There lies the primary reasons why your computer is running like a turtle. That desktop supports up to 2048 MB (2 GB) of RAM. You should add at least another 512 MB.

57 running processes and 32 checked start up entries is way too many. The start up load needs some serious trimming down. I suggest you post a HijackThis log here, as advised, so we can see what's installed and running in the background.
