When you attempt to start Windows XP, the computer may show an empty, black screen immediately and stop responding (hang) after the power-on self test (POST) is done and before the Windows XP logo normally displays on screen.

This problem may happen if any one condition is true:

Cause 1

This issue may happen if you have a CD, a DVD or a floppy disk in your CD, DVD, or floppy drive when you switch on your PC.

Cause 2

This issue happens if more than one following fundamentals are corrupted and will not run during the boot sequence of your PC:

• Master boot record

• Partition tables

• Boot sector

• NTLDR file
