    I receive an error message when I restart the computer after installing the Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit for Windows XP on a Windows XP SP2-based computer

    Install the Microsoft Shared PC Toolkit for Windows XP, on a Windows XP SP2 (Service Pack 2) based PC. You might obtain an error message, when you restart the PC. The error message obtains from this shows that Windows did not initiate effectively.

    This topic happens if you do not have Windows XP SP2 installed on the primary division. The Microsoft Shared PC Toolkit for Windows XP installation program supposes that the boot partition of the hard disk is on drive C. When Windows is not installed on drive C, the installation program copies the modified Ntldr file to the boot partition as a substitute of to the system separation where this file is necessary. When you start again the PC, you obtain the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.

    To work around this topic, manually copy the modified Ntldr file to the system partition and follow these ways.

    1. Log on to Windows as the local administrator. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.

    2. At the command prompt, type cd\, and afterward press ENTER.

    3. At the command prompt, type the subsequent command, and after that press ENTER:

    attrib –r –h –s ntldr

    4. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
    copy ntldr ntldr.original

    5. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
    copy d:\ntldr ntldr

    6. When you are provoked on whether you want to rewrite the Ntldr file, type y, and after that press the ENTER key.

    7. At the command prompt, type exit, and after that press ENTER key.

    8. Start again the computer.
