You receive an error message when you try to use a GPS device together with Streets & Trips
SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to use a GPS device together with Streets & Trips, you get following error message:
Microsoft Streets and trips has encountered an error. We are sorry for the inconvenience, please contact Microsoft about this problem. This application was closed due to an internal error.6-40028--1073741680
When aspects of the error message observed, you get an error that look like following:
AppName AppVer ModName ModVer Offset

CAUSE
This problem happens when one of the following circumstances is correct:
• There is other program that is interfering with Streets & Trips.
• There is a problem with your print driver.
• There is a problem with your installation of Data Access Components.
RESOLUTION
To fix this behavior, use the subsequent ways in the order that they appear in.
Method 1: Restart the computer in safe mode
Restart the computer in safe mode to decide whether a startup program is unsuited with Streets & Trips. If this problem solves, System Configuration utility (Msconfig.exe) used to identify the clash.
Method 2: Update print drivers
To get latest printer driver available for printer, contact the company of the printer.
Method 3: Update Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC)
To update MDAC components on PC, follow the steps given below.
1. In the Search box, type MDAC 2.8.
2. For Windows XP, select MDAC 2.8. For Windows 2000, Windows Millennium Edition, and Windows 98, select Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 SP1.
3. Confirm your copy of Windows, and then click Download.
4. In the File Download dialog box, click Open, and then follow the commands that show on the screen to finish the update of your MDAC components.
Method 4: Reinstall Microsoft Data Access components
On Windows XP, if updating MDAC fails, reinstall the latest version of the MDAC components from Windows .cab files. For this, follow these steps.
1. Search for the Adcjavas.inc file, and then note the path. The Adcjavas.inc file is typically in the i386 folder.
2. Find the C:\Windows\Inf folder.
3. Right-click the Mdac.inf file, and then click Install.
4. When you are demanded to insert the Windows XP disc, slot it. If you do not have the Windows XP CD, alter the path so that it matches the path for the Adcjavas.inc file in the i386 folder that you noted in step 1, and after that click on OK.
5. If you are prompted to overwrite any files, click Yes.
6. If you are prompted to restore system files from the Windows XP CD, click Cancel. Or, you want to do a repair installation of Windows XP. You should reinstall any Windows Updates or Service Packs after you do this.
