    Error message: The Works Task Launcher cannot access the task you selected

    SYMPTOMS

    When you tick a task in Works Task Launcher, you get one of the following error messages: The Works Task Launcher cannot access the task you selected. Necessary files may be missing, corrupted, or may have been deleted. To restore or replace files, reinstall Works, and then try starting the task again. If you no longer use the task, with the right button, click the task name, and then click Delete.
    Works cannot access one or more files.

    When you choose a task in the Task Launcher with Works Suite 2002, you get an error message that is just like following message: template has caused a serious error.In this error message, template is the name of the task that you are trying to run.

    CAUSE

    This problem happens if the following circumstances are true:
    • Norton AntiVirus is running on PC.
    • You may have to repair the Word 2000 installation on PC Works Suite only.
    • A Works Task Launcher file is harmed or lost.
    • Many fonts are installed in Fonts folder on PC.
    • Many printer drivers are installed on PC.
    • You should start the Works Task Launcher from inside Word 2000 (Works Suite only).
    • You have to reinstall both Word in Works Suite installation and the Word 2000 installation on PC (Works Suite only).
    • The Windows profile or user account may damaged.

    RESOLUTION

    To run Works Task Launcher from Word 2000 Works Suite only, follow the steps

    given below:

    1. Click Start, Programs, and then click Word.
    2. Click File, and then New.
    3. In the flyout menu, click to select Works Task Launcher.
    4. If steps 1 through 3 work, try to start Word from the Task Launcher that you
    started.
    5. If step 4 works, close all open windows on desktop, run Task Launcher, and then run Word from the Task Launcher.
    6. If this method fails, continue to the next method.
    You must repair Word 2000 (Works Suite only)
    To repair Word 2000, follow the steps given below:
    1. Click Start, Settings, and then click Control Panel.
    2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
    3. Click Word 2000, and then click Add/Remove.
    4. Click Repair Word.
    5. Click Repair errors in my Word installation, and then click Finish.
    6. Follow the commands that show on the screen to repair Word 2000.

    A Works Task Launcher file is damaged or missing To replace these files, remove Works, remove Works folder, clean boot your PC, and then again install Works. For this, follow the steps in the order that they show in.
    Remove Works Suite

    To remove Works Suite products, follow the steps given below:

    1. Insert the Works Setup CD in your PC's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
    2. On the Works Setup screen, click Remove.
    3. Choose all the products that are listed.
    4. Follow the commands to remove every product.
    Clean boot the computer
    Programs which are run at background can interfere with installation procedure. To ensure that you are only running the programs that you want, clean boot PC. For this, use proper technique for your version of Windows.

    Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)

    Run System Configuration Utility (msconfig.exe). For this, follow the steps given below:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. Click the General tab.
    Click Selective startup.
    3. Click to clear all the check boxes under Selective startup.
    4. Click the Startup tab.
    Click to choose the *StateMgr check box.
    5. Click OK.
    When you are asked to restart PC, click Yes.
    6. After PC restarts, click Start, Run, type msconfig, and then click OK.
    7. Isolate the problem.
    If the problem does not happen again after clean boot, rerun msconfig, click General tab, and then click to choose one check box in the Selective startup. Restart PC to decide if choosing that item reproduces the original problem.

    o Load=
    o Run=
    6. Click OK.
    7. When you are prompted to restart PC, do so.
    Microsoft Windows 95
    1. Restart PC.When you get "Starting Windows 95" message, press F8. On the Startup menu, choose Command Prompt Only.
    2. At the command prompt, type win, and hit ENTER.
    Press and keep down SHIFT until the Windows startup sequence ends.
    3. Stop any antivirus or disk tool programs installed on PC.
    4. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE.
    5. In the =Close Program dialog box, click any program except Explorer or Systray which are elements of Windows, and then click End Task.
    If you get a message that states that the program is busy or not responding, click End Task again.
    6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to close all programs other than Explorer and Systray.

    Works Suite programs and their registry keys removed the Works Installer functions. Again install the programs by executing Setup Program on Works Suite CD-ROM.

    Too many fonts are installed in the fonts folder
    To solve this problem, remove rarely used fonts from Fonts folder.

    Multiple Printer Drivers Are Installed on the Computer If multiple printer drivers are installed on PC, there clash with one of the drivers. Remove any printer drivers that you are not using. For this, follow the steps given below:
    1. Click Start, Settings, and then click Printers.
    2. Right-click the icon for printer that you would like to remove, and then click Delete.
    3. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
