    Default Installation of .NET Framework fails and requires manual removal

    SYMPTOMS

    If the installation of .NET Framework fails because of sudden powers or other installation malfunction modes, you may have to remove the .NET Framework yourself.

    RESOLUTION

    The steps given below to remove .NET Framework after a failed install and then enable you to reinstall it again. The steps also remove .NET Framework from PC. Though, if you have the .NET Framework installed, it suggests that you format the hard disk and then reinstall the .NET Framework.

    1. Remove the .NET Framework from the Windows Installer cache. For this, follow the steps given below:
    a. Click Start, and then click Run.
    b. Type Installer, and then click OK.
    c. On the View menu select Details
    d. Right-click the Date Modified column header.
    e. Click Comments
    f. In the Comments column, locate the cached Windows Installer file that displays .NET Framework (English) RTL x86 enu.
    g. Right-click the cached Windows Installer file, and then click Uninstall.
    h. Close the window.
    2. Remove the files and the folders from PC by yourself. For this, follow the steps

    given below:

    a. Click Start, and then click Run.
    b. Type System32, and then click OK.
    c. Find and then delete the Mscoree.dll file.
    d. Close the window.
    e. Click Start, and then click Run.
    f. Type Microsoft.NET, and then click OK.
    g. Double-click the Framework folder.
    h. Delete the v1.0.3705 folder.
    3 remove the registry keys from the Windows Registry by your self. For this, follow these steps:
    Click Start, and then click Run.
    Type regedit, and then click OK.
    Remove the following registry keys:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramewor k\PendingUpdates\v1.0.3705
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramewor k\policy\v1.0
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\Full\v1.0.3705
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\Product\Microsoft .NET Framework Full v1.0.3705 (1033)
    Quit Registry Editor.
    4• Zap the Windows Installer information from the registry by using the Msizap.exe utility. To do this, follow these steps:

    Click Start, and then click Run.
    Type cmd, and then click OK.
    At the command prompt, type CD\Program Files\Microsoft SDK\Bin, and then press ENTER.
    Type Msizap TP {B43357AA-3A6D-4D94-B56E-43C44D09E548}
    After the Msizap.exe process has completed, type Exit, and then press ENTER.
    Restart the computer.
    5• Clean out the contents of the Temp folder. For this, follow the steps given below:
    a. Click Start, and then click Run.
    b. Type %Temp%, and then click OK.
    c. On the Edit menu, click Select All.
    d. On the File menu, click Delete.
    6• Disable any antivirus or firewall software.
    7• If the .NET Framework 1.1.4322 is installed on PC, you should run a repair of .NET Framework 1.1.4322 to update specific files that were rolled back by the installation.

    How to repair .NET Framework 1.0.3705 or 1.1.4322
    1. .NET Framework v1.0.3705 can be repaired through the Windows Installer cache file.
    a. Click Start, and then click Run.
    b. Type Installer, and then click OK.
    c. On the View menu, click Details.
    d. Right-click the Date Modified column header, and then click Comments.
    e. In the Comments column, locate the cached Windows Installer file that displays Microsoft .NET Framework (English) RTL x86 enu.
    f. Right-click the cached Windows Installer file, and then click Uninstall.
    g. Close the window.
    2. .NET Framework 1.0.3705 repair by using the command prompt. For this, follow these steps:
    . find the original installation materials.
    * If you installed the .NET Framework 1.0.3705 from a CD or a DVD, insert the disc in the CD-ROM or the DVD-ROM drive.
    * If you downloaded the .NET Framework 1.0.3705, download it again, and then save it to your hard disk.
    * If you installed the .NET Framework 1.0.3705 from a network drive, reconnect to the share.
    a. Open a command prompt window.

    * Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, or Microsoft Windows NT
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. Type command, and then click OK.
    * Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. Type cmd, and then click OK.
    b. At the command prompt, type InstallationSource\dotnetfx.exe /t:%temp% /c:"msiexec.exe /fvecms %temp%\netfx.msi", and then press ENTER.
    3. Repair the .NET Framework 1.1.4322 by using the command prompt. For this, follow the steps given below:
    . find the original installation materials.
    * If you installed the .NET Framework 1.1.4322 from a CD or a DVD, insert the disc in the CD-ROM or the DVD-ROM drive.
    * If you downloaded the .NET Framework 1.1.4322, download it again, and then save it to your hard disk.
    * If you installed the .NET Framework 1.1.4322 from a network drive, reconnect to the share.
    a. Open a command prompt window.
    * Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, or Microsoft Windows NT
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. Type command, and then click OK.
    * Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. Type cmd, and then click OK.
    b. At the command prompt, type InstallationSource\dotnetfx.exe /t:%temp% /c:"msiexec.exe /fvecms %temp%\netfx.msi", and hit ENTER.
