SYMPTOMS:

You may obtain an error message, once you attempt to install a Office 2003 program.

Automatic Recovery protects your computer if setup fails. There is not enough disk space on the drive highlighted below to store the Automatic Recovery data. This data is temporary and will be deleted when setup completes.

The highlighted volumes do not have enough disk space available for the currently selected features.

Error 1307 There is not enough disk space to install this file. Free some disk space and click 'Retry', or click 'Cancel' to exit.

You may obtain this error message left the Preparing to Install progress indicator reaches the halfway point.

CAUSE:

This problem happens once you attempt to install Office 2003 on a PC that does not contain enough free hard disk space to perform the installation on the partition (or volume) where Microsoft Windows is installed.

RESOLUTION:

To solve this problem, use one or more of the following techniques in the order that they show.

Method 1: Remove Programs to Create More Available Hard Disk Space

To produce more vacant hard disk space on the drive where Windows is installed, use the Add/Remove Programs tool to remove programs that you do not use. To perform so, follow these steps:
1. Click Start>> click Control Panel.
2. Click Add/Remove Programs.
3. In the list of installed programs, click a program that you do not use>> click Remove or Change/Remove.
4. Follow the commands on the screen to fully remove the program.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to remove each program that you do not use.

Method 2: Use the Windows Disk Cleanup Wizard to Create More Available Hard Disk Space

1. Click Start>> All Programs>> Accessories>> System Tools>> click Disk Cleanup.
2. When Disk Cleanup has completed calculating the disk space that can be freed by the cleanup process>> click to select the check box for each file that you want to delete>> click OK.

Method 3: Move the Pagefile.sys File to a Different Partition

The paging file is the area on the hard disk that Windows uses as Random Access Memory (RAM). This area is also known as virtual memory. “By default Windows stores this file on the similar partition as the Windows system files. You can improve the performance of Windows, and more free space on the boot partition, by moving this file to another partition. To perform so, follow these steps:

1. Log on to the PC as the administrator.
2. Click Start>>click Control Panel>>click System.
3. In the System Properties dialog box,>>click the Advanced tab, and then in the Performance pane>>click Settings.
4. In the Performance Options dialog box>>click the Advanced tab, and then in the Virtual memory pane>> click Change.
5. In the Drive [Volume Label] list>> click a drive other than the one where Windows is installed.
6. Under Total paging file size for all drives, note the value that is displayed next to Recommended.
7. Click Custom size>> type the recommended value in the Initial size (MB) box.
8. Type the maximum size that you want to permit for paging in the Maximum size (MB) box>> click Set.
9. In the Drive [Volume Label] box, click the drive where Windows is installed typically drive C, and then follow one of these steps:
* If you do not want a paging file on the drive, click No paging file>> click Set. You get a message that is similar to the following message:
If the pagefile on volume C: has an initial size of less than 126 megabytes, then the system may not be capable to generate a debugging information file if a Stop error happens. Continue anyway?
Click Yes.
* If you want to keep the minimum size of the paging file on the drive, click Custom size>> type a value that is equal to or greater than the RAM in the PC in the Initial size (MB) box. Type the same value in the Maximum size (MB) box>> click Set.
You get a message that is similar to the following message:
The changes you contain ready need you to reboot your PC before they can get effect.
10. Follow the commands on the monitor to complete the process>> click Yes once you are prompted to reboot your PC.
