You receive an error message or the Setup program stops responding when you install Games for Windows, Streets & Trips, MapPoint, or Encarta
SUMMARY
This explains how to troubleshoot problems that you face when you install any product. This is particularly for a beginning to intermediate PC user.
SYMPTOMS
The following actions are particular issues that happen when you install any program:
• The Setup program prevents responding.
• You get an error message that looks like one of the following messages:
You get a Windows Installer error message that contains a error code, for example error 1305, 1603, 1335, or else 1935.
Game Name Setup encountered an error while reading the file
Setup was unable to find or could not read the language specific setup resource .dll.

RESOLUTION
Method 1: Clean the disc
Clean the CD or DVD. For this, use a disc-cleaning kit. Or, softly clean the silver side of the disc by using a soft, lint-free cotton cloth. Do not use paper cloth that can scratch the plastic and leave streaks. When you clean the disc, wash from the center of the disc outward. Do not use a circular motion. If the problem continues to happen, clean the disc by using a damp cloth or a commercial CD or DVD cleaning solution. Dry the disc carefully before you inserting the disc. If the problem continues to happen, go to the next method.
Method 2: Run the Xcopy command
Xcopy utility can be used to decide whether the disc or drive is bad. To run the Xcopy command, follow the steps given below:
1. Slot in the game discs in the disc drive. If the game setup starts, exit it.
2. Click Start, point to Run, and after that type the command line for the version of Windows that you are using:
o For Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Windows 2000, type cmd.
o For Windows 98, type Command.
The Command Prompt window appears on the screen.

Method 3: Install and then start the program by using a different CD or DVD drive
The CD drive unable to read the product CD. Try to install the program by using a different CD or DVD drive on the same PC or on a different PC. For this, follow the steps given below:
1. Slot in the disc into the CD or else DVD drive of one more PC, or else a second CD or DVD drive on the original PC. The Setup program should start.
2. Click Express Install.

Windows Vista
1. Click Start, type %temp% in the Start Search box, and hit ENTER.
2. On the Organize menu, click Select All.
3. On the Organize menu, click Delete.
4. Click Yes.
Windows XP or Microsoft Windows 2000
1. Click Start, click Run, type %temp% in the Open box, and click OK.
2. On the Edit menu, click Select All.
3. On the File menu, click Delete.
4. Click Yes when you get following message:
Are you sure you want to send these items to the Recycle Bin?
Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition
1. Click Start, click Run, type temp in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. On the Edit menu, click Select All.
3. On the File menu, click Delete.
4. Click Yes when you get following message:
Are you sure you want to send these items to the Recycle Bin?
If the problem continues to happen, go to the next method.
Method 5: Try to install the game on another directory or on another drive
If the game ends responding or hangs or you get an error message through setup, attempt to install the game in another folder. If PC has other hard disk, attempt to install the game on this hard disk.
1. Insert the game disc in the drive.
2. Follow the setup menus until you see the Change button.
3. Click Change.
4. In the Path box, delete the existing path, and then type the following text:
drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\game name
5. Click OK when you are completed.
6. Follow the instructions that show on the screen to install the game.
