Thread: Tux Paint – A Great Image Program for Your Children

Searching for an image program for your child. Here’s the solution. Tux Paint is a great utility to your family’s system whether using Windows, Linux, or Mac.

Installation & Setup:

Installation consists of 9 install windows to go through yet it’s a easy and quick process. Once installation is completed, it is suggested to let the Tux Paint Config begin. It will help everything set up properly before running Tux Paint.



As Tux Paint Configuration is started, it will begin with “About Tab”. At the end there are options regarding “Current User” or “All Users”, the ability to make changes, resetting the Configuration, selecting Defaults, and the Configuration exit.



In the “Video/Sound Tab” select the screen display size according to your requirement as resizing is not possible while the Tux Paint Window is in process. One can also select to rotate the screen sizes (width and height), allow a screensaver, activate or deactivate sound effects, or use a different color palette.



The “Mouse/Keyboard Tab” area allows choosing “Fancy Cursor Shapes”, to hide the cursor, activate or deactivate keyboard shortcuts, and the options that one would like to have enabled for mouse during Tux Paint is in process.



In the “Simplification Tab” one can make choices regarding Tux Paint Stamps, text case, Magic Controls, and the ability to deactivate the “Quit Button” and “Escape Key”.

Display language can also be set in this window, Stamp Mirroring, and what you would like Tux Paint to do with the system’s fonts in the “Language Tab” section.



In the “Printing Tab” section one can change for printing in Tux Paint.



The “Saving Tab” section allows wonderful choices in how to handle stored pictures. One can also select to have Tux Paint always running with a blank canvas, use an alternate save directory, deactivate the “Quit Button” option, and activate auto-saving pictures option on program exit.



The “Data Tab” section allows deactivating the “Lockfile” (to run multiple instances) and option to use an alternate data directory.

Here configuration is completed for Tux Paint and can exit Tux Paint Configuration as the program doesn’t have an automatic closing option. Before running Tux Paint install the Stamps first if additional functionality added to Tux Paint…



Install the Stamps:

As with the main program, there are 9 install screens to go from with this install file. Here one can see that the Stamps will be installed in the Tux Paint folder in Program Files.

It will enable to choose the stamps that you want to install for Tux Paint.



The shortcuts for the Stamps will be included in the Tux Paint folder in Start Menu for easy finding and to keep it organized.



Tux Paint in Action:

After completing the installation process of Stamps, the Main Window will look same as shown here. Now it’s ready to be used.
