Don't just maximize your windows—go full screen
When you want big window, do not just maximize it do the full screen. To obtain window full screen, press control key and double-click window's title bar or when the window is active, push F11 key to obtain the largest window probable.
Add the Links toolbar to My Computer
If you want to place your favorite applications and documents so you can open them from any window. Then go to Start, My Computer then right-click the toolbar and tick Links. Then toolbar appear on windows, like in Internet Explorer. Ensure that Lock the Toolbars is not checked. Click on it to deselect it if it is.
The good thing about Links toolbar is that it's fully customizable. Go to your favorite application and drag and drop its icon to Links toolbar. You simply made a shortcut. Do this repeatedly for as many applications as you want to show on toolbar.

Arrange windows on your desktop
Two windows on desktop can be shown by clicking a first window's button on Taskbar. Then, push Ctrl key and right tick second window that want to open, then tick Tile Vertically. This works well when you want to view two Microsoft Word windows at same time.
Organize your files into groups
Arrange your files by grouping them. Open a folder having different subfolders and file types. Right-click on vacant space on window's contents pane, tick Arrange Icons By, and then tick Show in Groups. To place window's contents, right-click again in vacant space on windows contents pane, go to Arrange Icons By, and tick Name, Size, Type, or Modified.
Make your own icons
It's simple to make your own icons in Windows XP. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, and Paint. On Image menu, click Attributes. Type 32 for both Width and Height of document, and ensure that Pixels is chosen under Units. Tick OK to make a new 32x32-pixel document: size of an icon.
Now include type, color, or anything to image. I like to shrink photos to 32x32 and just paste them into Paint. When you are completed, open File menu and tick Save As. Utilize dialog box to select where you want to save your file, and then give it a name followed by ".ico", and click Save. You formed an icon. Now you can modify any shortcut or folder to your own icon just browse to it on hard drive.
