Windows makes it simple to get files and folders that you may have lost or forgotten their place. There are some methods to go about this. Here are two of them are given. The first method is to go to Start and then Search and then choose For Files or Folders. You will get dialog box like following.
Usually you would want to use all files and folders choice unless you are searching for a printer or another PC.
Then you will be able to enter in file or folder name you are searching for and where you want Windows to start search. You can search one folder in whole PC and all drives.
You can also search by other techniques like file size and the date it was made or changed. If you go to more advanced options you can choose other choices like search hidden files and folders and search by case. If you want to search for a certain kind of file you can utilize wildcards to narrow your search. E.g. if you search for *.doc then Windows will get all files with .doc extension on the end.
When the search is finish then results will show as shown in example.
If you view by details you get information about file size, location and date modified with other details you can add to columns.
The other method to search is to go to My Computer and choose folder you want to search in, right click it and select Search.
The similar search box is shown as earlier than except starting point for search will be folder you right clicked to search in.
